Company strives to improve indoor air
quality |
May 4, 2001 Section: Special Page: 19 For more than 40 years, Tamarack Heating and
Cooling has been providing both residents and businesses in the
area with top-quality products and services for all their heating
and cooling needs. Now, Tamarack is taking the lead in a relatively new area of the
industry: indoor air quality. Mark Bushell who currently runs the indoor air
quality department at Tamarack, believes there is an epidemic of
poor air quality in our homes today. "According to a recent survey
by the American Lung Association, 85 percent of Americans don't
realize the air in their homes may be hazardous to their health,"
Bushell said. "A high concentration of indoor air pollutants like
mold, bacteria, dust mites, fungi, and even pet dander may be
responsible for such conditions as asthma, allergies, respiratory
tract infections, and even lung cancer." One of the most common
ailments now attributed to poor indoor quality is "humidifier
fever." This disease is generally considered by the victim to be a
24-hour flu because symptoms are the same including fever,
headache, chills and malaise. Although exact causes of this disease
are unknown, it has been related to exposure to biological air
pollutants found in humidifier reservoirs and air conditioners.
Bushell explains that humidifiers share breeding grounds for
bacteria and fungi, which are then pumped into the indoor air
stream by the ventilation system. Poor indoor air quality also has
been linked to the transmission of infectious diseases like
tuberculosis and Legionnaires' Disease, a type of pneumonia.
Tamarack is proud to sell patent-pending clean-air systems from
Honeywell, a leader in the field of improving indoor air quality.
"With today's weather-tight houses, indoor air quality can be five
times more polluted than the outdoor air," Bushell said. Although
it is possible to control some of these pollutants by properly
maintaining heating and cooling units and air ducts, it is
impossible to eliminate them all, especially in traditional
systems. In response, Honeywell is doing some ground-breaking work
in developing residential air systems that will significantly
reduce indoor air pollutants and that are economical for consumers.
Honeywell's Envirocaire Elite system includes several different
components, which can be used individually or as a whole clean air
system, to help eliminate pollutants. One part of this system is
the humidifier, which includes the Healthshield Antibacterial pad.
This pad is coated with an antimicrobial agent to kill the mold,
fungi, and bacteria that normally flourish inside the humidifier.
Honeywell uses the same antimicrobial agent that is used on
Pacemakers and McDonald's countertops. Another part of the system
is an ultraviolet purifier, which involves installing ultraviolet
bulbs near the A-coil of an air-conditioning unit, and at the
return for the "zap and trap" system. Some experts attribute the
unusual smell when a heating or air-conditioning system is turned
on to the circulation of mold and bacteria that have been growing
on the A-coil. In the same manner as the sun's ultraviolet rays,
the UV bulbs kill a high percentage of the mold and bacteria in the
units before they are circulated throughout the house. Finally,
Honeywell sells special air cleaners with filters designed to
capture a significant amount of airborne particles, some as small
as .3 microns. "The result of using these units is a cleaner
airflow throughout the house," Bushell said. "At Tamarack, we can
mix and match different components to make a clear-air system
affordable for our customers. A better air cleaner can run as low
as $400, while the whole system might cost $2,000. For those who
suffer from the diseases caused by poor indoor air quality,
however, the cost is significant compared to the relief a system
can provide. "The Envirocaire Elite system can provide almost
immediate relief to people with allergies and asthma and those with
general symptoms like sneezing, rashes, watery or dry eyes,
hoarseness, coughing and dizziness. I think Honeywell can be the
savior of indoor air quality," he said. The company is currently
working on commercial applications of clean-air systems, because
the conditions attributed to poor air quality may be responsible
for a significant amount of days lost from work and school. Bushell
also stresses that regular duct cleaning helps cut down on indoor
air pollutants, even without an Envirocaire Elite system. Tamarack
has a state-of-the-art duct cleaning truck to provide this service.
With the installation of a clean-air system, duct cleaning is
needed less frequently. In addition to the Envirocaire Elite
clean-air system and duct cleaning, Tamarack offers sales and
service in a wide variety of heating and air-conditioning systems,
humidifiers, air cleaners, and room heaters, mainly in residential
and small commercial settings. The company is family owned and
operated by Rod Kaminskas, chief executive officer, and his wife
Judy, his sons Mike, Mark and Steve, his daughter Renee, and his
daughter-in-law Sandy. "Tamarack has grown to be the largest
company of its type in Will County," said longtime sales manager
Darrell Richards, "and we are continuing to make it the best. Last
year, we revised our warranties to keep them the best in the
business. The parts warranties on the furnaces and air-conditioning
compressors are both 12 years, the longest in the business to the
best of my knowledge. We are also taking on many new builder and
enlarging our territory, as well as doing more work in the
clean-air and high-efficiency/high-tech areas of the industry."
Tamarack is also an American Standard dealer. Tamarack is proud to
be the largest American Standard dealer in the United States.

Tamarack Heating & Cooling near 40th
year |
March 24, 2002 Section: local Page: L6 PLAINFIELD -- The year 2001 was another success for
Tamarack Heating & Cooling, a company that has
been providing both residents and businesses in the area with top-
quality products and services for all their heating and cooling
needs for nearly 40 years."Last year, we began construction on an
18,000-square-foot building which will house our metal shop and
expanded service department," says sales manager Darrell Richards. |
"We also bought another heating and cooling
company in Coal City, so we are now expanding our service into the
Wilmington/Coal City area. In the spring, we are planning to open
an office in Morris as well." Tamarack offers sales and service in
heating, air conditioning, humidifiers, air cleaners and room
heaters, mainly in residential and small commercial settings. In
recent months, Tamarack has taken the lead in the relatively new
indoor air quality sector of the heating and cooling industry and
sells patent- pending clean air systems from Honeywell, a leader in
the field of improving indoor air quality. Honeywell's Envirocaire
Elite system includes several different components, which can be
used individually or as a whole-house clean air system, to help
eliminate pollutants. These components include air cleaners,
ultraviolet bulbs and humidifiers with Healthshield antibacterial
pads. These units help eliminate indoor air pollutants and produce
a cleaner air flow throughout the house. "The indoor air quality
program is going very well," states Richards. "We have installed
many ultra-violet bulb systems, as well as other clean air
components. Our customers are very concerned with their family's
health, and experts consider this one way to prevent infection and
alleviate allergies." Duct cleaning, furnace maintenance and
installation of the Envirocaire Elite air cleaner system are just a
few of the many ways Tamarack fills customer needs. Also, the parts
warranties on furnaces from American Standard are 12 years, the
longest in the business, according to Richards. Tamarack has grown
to be one of the largest companies of its type in Will County and
is proud to be the largest American Standard dealer in the United
States. American Standard was recently rated No. 1 in HVAC in a
report done by independent contractors in Consumer Reports. In
addition, Tamarack increased its sales in 2001 from the previous
year, for the 11th year in a row. Customers can expect 24-hour
service, 365 days of the year when they use Tamarack. Tamarack

needs for more than 40 years. Tamarack has approximately 100
employees and 70 trucks to service your every heating and cooling
need 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Tamarack has been awarded the
largest American Standard Dealer of the year since the early 1990s,
along with being an award-winning dealer for excellence in the
participation of the American Standard Customer Care program
assuring customer satisfaction. "We have several departments that specialize in different
aspects of the trade in order to give customers prompt professional
service for new construction, residential replacement, service,
boilers, indoor air quality, air duct cleaning and commercial
work," Mark Bushell said. The company has been an exclusive dealer of American Standard
furnaces and air conditioners since 1989. American Standard was
again recently rated No. 1 in reliability for most the trouble-free
furnace and air conditioner in a report done by independent
contractors in Consumer Reports. American Standard has been a
fixture in homes for more than a 100 years. They offer furnaces
with efficiencies of 80 to 92+ and comfort levels of single stage,
two stage and two-stage variable speed and air conditioners with
SEER ratings from 10 to 18.9. Indoor air quality has become a big part of health and home. "We have all the latest technology to improve your health and
home's well being," Bushell said. "Electronic air cleaners help to
control the particulates in home (dust, dander, pollen, etc).
Ultra-violet light to focus on the microbial (mold, bacteria,
pathogens, etc). Ultra-violet light can help prevent this growth.
Ultra-violet light can work in conjunction with a high-efficiency
filter to get a zap (killing microbial) and trap (capturing dead
particulates) effect. Humidifiers for dryness, perfect air machines
to exchange fresh air with stale air (diluting volatile organic
compounds). Whole house duct cleaning, chimney sweep, dryer vent
cleaning using our power vac truck are just a few ways Tamarack
fills customers home health needs." Tamarack has its own fabrication shop to make the finest quality
of metal and fittings for our custom-fit residential installs, duct
work for new construction and commercial jobs. With the continuous
rise of steel prices, Tamarack has maintained consistent prices
with high-quality metal and services into every job with out
passing it on to the customer. Tamarack has a Honeywell eScan computer, which is a home scan
computer to point out deficiencies in the equipment, ductwork and
home. This can held customers with rooms too hot, too cold,
troubles heating or cooling, high energy bills, excessive dust or
airflow issues. Qualified technicians come into the home and give
you a computer printout of the issues at hand with ways to fix the
problems. This process is an MRI for your home with results that
are proven by a computer, not by an individual's own perception of
the problems in the home. The company is family owned and operated by Rod Kaminskas and
his son Mark, the general manager. Main office hours are from 7
a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays. The

Tamarack firm adopts new computer
technology |
PLAINFIELD — Over
the years, Tamarack Heating & Cooling has been providing
residential and commercial customers with quality products and
services for all their heating and cooling needs. Recently, Tamarack has started working with a breakthrough
computer diagnostic technology that can help consumers increase
their home's energy efficiency and comfort level. Customers can expect 24-hour service, 365 days of the year when
they use Tamarack. Tamarack Heating & Cooling is at 11965 S.
Aero Drive. The office is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m.
to noon on Saturday. For more information, call (815) 436-4331 or
visit the tamarackheating.com Web site. More to be uncomfortable
"The truth is that it costs homeowners more to be
uncomfortable," said Tamarack's Mark Bushell. "Ninety percent of
the homes in America are 60 percent or less energy efficient, and
the vast majority of these are less than comfortable and less than
healthy. "Our new technology enables a Tamarack Honeywell/Enalasys eScan
Certified sales technician to electronically diagnose in less than
two hours exactly what needs to be done to bring these homes up to
comfort, air quality, and efficiency standards." This patented technology shows the homeowner the precise causes
of their discomfort and high-energy bills and provides a
line-by-line estimate for the necessary repairs. Some of the issues
addressed by the evaluation include high energy bills, comfort
related issues (such as rooms that are too hot or too cold), indoor
air quality issues and concerns, noisy systems, and frequent dust
problems. The eScan diagnostic unit is the key to determining the precise
cause of HVAC system performance deficiencies. This patented
technology essentially performs the equivalent of an MRI of the
operational HVAC system, and accurately, quickly, and
cost-effectively diagnoses the cause of HVAC system problems. The energy analysis is provided at the time of service,
including a detailed diagnostic report that identifies inefficient
system performance and recommended improvement options. The
customer will become aware of the cost/benefits of an improved
system and has the option of a current or delayed repair option.
Tamarack's technician electronically registers the test results in
the tracking database, providing an audit trail of technical
adjustments required for optimal performance and optional post
repair test results for verification. Once the specific causes of the problems are identified, a
certified HVAC contractor (Tamarack) can prescribe a solution with
a combination of products specifically designed not only to repair,
but also to improve the HVAC system performance and effectively
address any possible indoor air pollution issues. Tamarack also offers sales and service in heating , air
conditioning, humidifiers, air cleaners, and room heaters, mainly
in residential and small commercial settings. Tamarack has been a
leader in the indoor air quality sector of the heating and cooling
industry and strives to improve indoor air quality. Many ways to fill
Duct cleaning, furnace and air conditioner maintenance, and

ways Tamarack fills customer needs. Also, the parts warranties on
furnaces and air conditioners from American Standard are 12 years,
the longest in the business. Tamarack has grown to be the largest company of its type in Will
